The Creative School is a play based Christian preschool.
We believe children learn best through play, as it allows our students to explore and engage the classroom on their own terms. By intertwining the development of fundamental skills with classroom play, students come to school eager to learn and are able to develop their skills in a way that feels natural to each individual. This interactive and hands-on approach has proven to be stimulating and engaging for students of all ages.
Play based learning not only fosters creativity and problem solving skills, but enhances social and emotional skills as well. Building these skills at an early age is imperative for a child's academic development. We promote joyful learning and relationship building in the classroom.
As a ministry of Lovers Lane UMC, we believe each child is a gift from God. While nurturing and caring for our students, we share with them our Christian beliefs, values, and love. Keeping the needs of our young children in mind, we offer weekly chapel and introduce prayer to share our love for God and each other. We welcome students and teachers of all religious and spiritual backgrounds.
A play-based approach allows for both child-directed and teacher-supported learning. The teacher encourages children’s learning and inquiry through interactions and engagement. We recognize that the way to teach a child is through their own interests and developed concrete strategies to support this learning.
For example, when playing with blocks, a teacher can pose questions that encourage problem solving, awareness of math concepts, science, and literacy concepts. Simple questions like "How tall can this get?", "How many blocks do you need?", "What do you want to build?" bring the simple act of stacking blocks into applied learning.
Creative School serves children from 20 months - 4 years. As a preschool which operates September through May, children are enrolled in a class based on their age as of September 1. (eg. students entering Pre-K 3 must be 3 years old on or before September 1)
Our student:teacher ratio never exceeds 10:1.
Additionally, we have multiple teacher aides on campus every day to provide an extra set of helping hands in any class that may need it throughout the day. We do this to ensure each student and class is getting the attention or help they may need.
