our preschool program
SEPTEMBER - MAY
9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
First and foremost, the staff at The Creative School are dedicated to building a nurturing environment for our children an environment where students feel safe, secure, and loved.
The Creative School utilizes a preschool curriculum that is thoughtfully planned, challenging, engaging, developmentally appropriate, and comprehensive. Our curriculum covers all areas of early learning including literacy, math, science, social studies, art, music, and both fine and gross motor movement.
While we ensure the children's academic curriculum is comprehensive, we also ensure our children have the foundational skills necessary to support cognitive, language, social, emotional, and physical development. Students learn best when they are excited about what they are doing. As such, we encourage our students to build friendships and explore interests throughout the school year.
Music & Movement
Music & Movement stimulates development and growth. Children enjoy singing, dancing, playing instruments, and learning about rhythm and patterns.
Musical activities encourage the body’s urge to move, the brain’s attention to patterns, the ear’s lead in initiating communication, the voice’s response to sounds, as well as the eye-hand coordination associated with playing musical instruments.
Weekly Chapel is provided for the 3s and 4s. WHC pastoral staff offer an age appropriate children’s liturgy that is approximately 15–20 minutes.
Each month features a specific theme of spiritual formation. Two or three songs are used repeatedly throughout the month so the children learn them well. Children’s birthdays are recognized during chapel with a "Birthday Blessing” at the end of the service.
Once a week the children will attend library and check out a book from The Creative School. The librarian selects and shares a story with each class.
Children work on listening skills, remembering story sequences, recognizing rhymes, learning patterns, and vocabulary acquisition. Most importantly they learn to love stories and books.
This is an optional program that runs from noon to 2:00 PM. The curriculum includes child-directed center time, free art expression, story time, and outside play.
Students look forward to "Lunch Bunch" each afternoon as they are able to get to know their teacher and classmates on a more personal level. This time also provides students the opportunity to work on more in-depth projects according to their interests. Children will need to bring a healthy peanut-free lunch and beverage (preferably water).
