Lyndel Doran, Preschool Director:

I grew up in Dallas and graduated from Ursuline Academy and the University of Dallas. I have not ventured very far from home! My husband Mike and I have lived in this neighborhood for over 27 years. My daughter Ariel and her husband Dallas live in Austin. My son Evan attends the University of Georgia and is in his Junior year.

Like you, I came to Creative School as a parent.  After my son moved to elementary school, I taught the 3’s for 5 years, which is such a fun age to teach! This is my 10th year as director and I have enjoyed being part of this wonderful community; both Creative School and WHUMC.

I love this quote from Rev. Charles R. Swindoll, “Each day of our lives we make deposits in the memory banks of our children.” My focus every day is the connection and interaction with the children, whether it’s a good day, or a bad day. I want them to know they are valued, treasured and important to me.  It is a privilege to play such an important role in their development, growth and education. One thing you may not know about me, as a mother, I worked full-time and had my oldest in day care for six years. On the flip side, I was a stay-at-home mom for 5 years. I do understand the demands and struggles families find themselves in balancing professional and family time.  When families are feeling contrite about forgetting snacks or a lunch or a coat, I sympathize since in the past I have found myself in the same situation.  We are all doing our best!

You might ascertain from my profession as an educator, I value education and learning above all else. I joke with friends that I need a placard that states “I work to pay for my children’s education.” While costly financially, our family believes providing a quality education for our children is our highest priority. I know you realize that too! Happy Parenting!

Sarah Fraler, Office Administrator:

Creative School has been my home since 2015. I have taught in the classroom, helped as an aide, and am now a behind-the-scenes part of what keeps our wonderful school running every day.  I live in Carrollton with my husband, Jeff, and our three children. I attended SMU for my BA in English Literature along with a teaching certification for Early Childhood-6th grade, and the University of Texas at Tyler for postgrad work in both English Literature and Curriculum Design and Instruction.

Having two children officially in “big” school now, I have wholeheartedly come to understand the benefit of a play-based preschool foundation. By being gifted the opportunity to socialize through play and learn through discovery, our children, both my own and the ones that cross through our school doors each morning, are better equipped for success. Our dedicated staff and welcoming community has made Creative School what it is today, and I am proud to call myself a part of it.

The Creative School is a non-profit school and a ministry of  Walnut Hill United Methodist Church. Educating children in north Dallas for over 60 years, we offer programs for children from 20 months of age through Prekindergarden 4s. We operate on a 9 month calendar, September – May.

Our morning preschool hours are 9 A.M.  – 12 noon with an optional extended program until 2 pm. We provide a secure and Christian environment that encourages children to learn and grow.

Our preschool curriculum is developmentally appropriate and addresses all areas of early childhood development including: literacy, math, science, art and fine motor. Enrichment classes include Music and Movement, Spanish, and Library. Our older children also attend a weekly chapel service.
