Creative School

Hearts for Loving, Hands for Learning

The Creative School is a non-profit school and a ministry of  Walnut Hill United Methodist Church. Educating children in north Dallas for over 50 years, we offer programs for children from 2 years of age through Kindergarten. We operate on a 9 month calendar, September – May.

Our morning preschool hours are 9 A.M.  – 12 noon with an optional extended program until 2 pm. Kindergarten is from 9 A.M. until 2 P.M..We provide a secure and Christian environment that encourages children to learn and grow.

Our preschool curriculum is developmentally appropriate and addresses all areas of early childhood development including: literacy, math, science, art and fine motor. Enrichment classes include Music and Movement, Spanish, and Library. Our older children also attend a weekly chapel service.

About Mrs. Doran:

My first experience at Creative School was as a parent, when my son began preschool in the 2-year-old class. We loved having him attend and enjoyed the sense of community that the school and church offered. When he began elementary school, I started teaching in the 3-year-old class. I loved this age with my own children. As a teacher, I found it a marvelous age to teach! This is my seventh year as Director, and I am amazed that time has flown by so quickly!

Being a Director at Creative School is one of the best jobs I have ever had! I am never bored, the days are fun, happy and ever-changing. I am passionate about children, how they learn, and how we can best promote their development and growth.  My education includes a B.A. in Psychology, with a minor in Education, as well as an M.B.A. I can honestly state that I use all aspects of my education on a daily basis. Although very rewarding, it takes considerable patience, and problem-solving skills to work with my young friends.

My husband, Mike and I have two wonderful children, Ariel and Evan. As a parent of two almost grown children, I still seek parenting tips and hints to help me relate to my own children. I enjoy sharing books, articles, and topics with families as we all navigate through the various ages and stages of child-rearing. It is an honor to provide support and guidance for families.
