Creative School

Hearts for Loving, Hands for Learning

The Creative School is a non-profit school and a ministry of  Walnut Hill United Methodist Church. Educating children in north Dallas for over 50 years, we offer programs for children from 2 years of age through Kindergarten. We operate on a 9 month calendar, September – May.

Our morning preschool hours are 9 A.M.  – 12 noon with an optional extended program until 2 pm. Kindergarten is from 9 A.M. until 2 P.M..We provide a secure and Christian environment that encourages children to learn and grow.

Our preschool curriculum is developmentally appropriate and addresses all areas of early childhood development including: literacy, math, science, art and fine motor. Enrichment classes include Music and Movement, Spanish, and Library. Our older children also attend a weekly chapel service.

About Ms. Laura:

I am so fortunate to have grown up in San Antonio, and with my father's cattle ranch southwest of there. There were always animals around to play with, ride or work. That is where I developed my love for animals and little children.

Thirty-five years ago I graduated from The University of Texas, married, and moved to Dallas.  My children, Walt (32) and his wife, Traci; Shelly (30) and her husband, Jeff; and the baby, Brent (24), came along and are the pride and joy of my life.  But Luke(5) and Evan(2 ½), our grandkids, are the most heavenly blessings my husband, Sandy and I, have ever known. They live in Austin with their parents, Walt and Traci. Shelly and Jeff are in Frisco and Brent lives in Houston.

Besides spending as much time as I can with the grandkids, I enjoy cooking, especially with wine; occasionally I even put some in the food.  I have 2 black labs, Hoss and Tank, who hang out in the back yard with me and the hummingbirds.  I idolize the Horns(Sandy and Walt went there as well) in all facets and have a soft spot for TTU as Shelly and Brent graduated from there.

I taught preschool for several years at University Park United Methodist Church Weekday School when Walt and Shelly were enrolled there.  Then I followed them to St. Monica Catholic School where, among other duties, I taught Spanish to the kindergartners through 3rd graders, including Jordan Spieth.  After several years there, I shifted gears and worked at the family catering company.  Missing the joy of being around little children, I was determined to come back to it and thankfully landed here at The Creative School 2 years ago.  It truly has been a wonder filled experience!
