Creative School

Hearts for Loving, Hands for Learning

The Creative School is a non-profit school and a ministry of  Walnut Hill United Methodist Church. Educating children in north Dallas for over 50 years, we offer programs for children from 2 years of age through Kindergarten. We operate on a 9 month calendar, September – May.

Our morning preschool hours are 9 A.M.  – 12 noon with an optional extended program until 2 pm. Kindergarten is from 9 A.M. until 2 P.M..We provide a secure and Christian environment that encourages children to learn and grow.

Our preschool curriculum is developmentally appropriate and addresses all areas of early childhood development including: literacy, math, science, art and fine motor. Enrichment classes include Music and Movement, Spanish, and Library. Our older children also attend a weekly chapel service.

Barbara Guckenheimer, Creative Music and Movement

About Ms. Barbara:

I knew from an early age, when my Christmas list always included a blackboard and a pointer, that teaching was for me!

I attended Colorado State University and the University of Texas. After school, in my early twenties, I taught dance. This was also one of my loves.  I married and had 2 sons in my thirties, and returned to work teaching at Schreiber Methodist Preschool for eleven years. I also have been teaching music once a week at First United Methodist for the past 20 years.

I joined the Creative School staff in 2000, as one of the Music and Movement teachers. I feel that my job is the best in the school and I am blessed to be able to teach this wonderful age group!
